In Ditsobotla Local Municipality, the provincial government has undertaken a range of interventions targeting municipal roads.
Premier Lazarus Mokgosi said a comprehensive assessment of priority streets in Lichtenburg had been completed. The identified roads include Nelson Mandela Drive, the R52 and Beyers Naudé Drive.
The planned interventions include pothole patching, asphalt overlay and road rehabilitation in partnership with Sanral.
The Premier also announced the resealing of Dr Mangope Drive and First Street in Itsoseng, with construction scheduled to start in August.
Mokgosi said the province had reached practical completion of the rehabilitation of Road D933 and Road D2095 between Lichtenburg and Gelukspan.
The project cost R479.6-million and upgraded approximately 25.8 kilometres of road infrastructure. It has improved mobility and connectivity within the Ngaka Modiri Molema District.
Mokgosi also used the briefing to report progress in municipal financial governance.
He said Moses Kotane, JB Marks and Greater Taung municipalities had improved from qualified to unqualified audit opinions in the 2025/26 financial year.
Bojanala Platinum District, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District and Moretele Local Municipality were also among municipalities with unqualified outcomes.
He said the number of municipalities that received disclaimer audit opinions had fallen from nine in 2020/21 to one in 2024/25, with Ditsobotla remaining the only one still with a disclaimer outcome.
Mokgosi also applauded Ratlou Local Municipality for moving from a disclaimer to a qualified outcome, saying it had successfully completed its Annual Financial Statement submission without using consultants.
The Premier also acknowledged that several municipalities remained in serious financial and governance difficulty.
He announced that the Provincial Executive Council had approved a recalibrated approach to financial recovery interventions.
One of the largest opportunities highlighted was the Bojanala Special Economic Zone (SEZ), which was nearing completion following the appointment of two senior officials by the Minister of Trade and Industry to provide strategic governance and policy guidance.
Once fully operational, the SEZ is expected to create more than 20,000 work opportunities through targeted investments of R15-billion.
Tourism was another area highlighted during the briefing. Mokgosi said the sector had generated 9,242 employment opportunities and added R10.9-billion to the provincial economy.
He said the province intended to strengthen tourism through the return of the South African Music Awards and the hosting of major football
fixtures.

We have a provincial road from Rustenburg to Brits from the Sun City four ways stop right to Beestekraal that road has claimed so many lives due to accidents caused by potholes,I really don’t know why that road is not attended to
What about 12th Avenue, Eeufees and 1st Avenue in Lichtenburg, to name a few, that the trucks are destroying. That’s three roads that connect tourists to guesthouses and the mall.
In fact the whole burgersdorp streets need reconstruction. Not forgetting short streets in Lichtenburg. And working at bonjour junction is not fixing dr Beyers Naudee street as a whole.
It is pleasing to hear that some construction of roads maintenance is happening in our province, but the problem is that we small companies we are not considered by your big brother (SANRAL) my company has a grade 5 cepe, very vested in low volume roads, especially, potholes, overlays, V-drains, etc, but and l’m based in klerksdorp, no projects for the past 15 years now. Road from swartrugens to magaliesburg full of potholes
That’s a lot of money for such a small road.
Hi, we have a road from magaliesberg koster swartuggens, the road is in a miserable state, at places there is no road, to say potholes is an understatement
The road is a business lifeline to beyond our borders, yet it is left in such a miserable state for years
We received a notice about 2 months back they will start with a complete rehabilitation project, up until now absolutely nothing is being done, it is so frustrating
Could we please get feedback n hopefully it will be given to a reliable contract that will not steal the money n run away

The Provincial government announces route Z604 during Thuntsha lerole Provincial program in Klipgat hall engagement with the community as rhe route was identified amongst others to be rehabilitated even now nothing has happened the community of Klipgat are left with no answers therefore we request the Provincial government to execute their commitment particularly the route that was promised the people of Klipgat ward 24 in Madibeng local municipality

The premier should have only mentioned the road going to Afrimat and Sephaku. As far as the roads and streets in Lichtenburg are concerned, there is absolutely nothing done
Can I be advised where Bojanala Special Economic Zone is based? I thought it was meant to be located in Mogwase but I haven’t seen anything nad it is supposed to be nearing completion?
Most of us the North west We Don’t have road While you Corrupt Govt official You use Million of Rands for A 2.5 kilometres so that you must benefit Myra internal road I hope In that Millions Taung all villages Will be Fixed,Ao Banna
Why did the road amount to such a ridiculous amount for just 28km that’s totally absurd. This government should do better instead of pocketing money that could’ve done more. I do not believe this statement of roughly 400 million!!
While roads are important to all of us, we would like intervensions in other industries. Rustenburg municipality delays progress (ECONOMICALLY) when it comes to wayleaves. Other companies can get them but not Telkom Soc. We are loosing jobs in our visinity (Rustenburg) due to that and expected to pay rate and taxes to the sane entity🤦 its a shame.
In my home village Mmorogong was Bakwena ba Rabusula the village before Rieghoek/Tlhatlhaganye, the road that runs from Ledig passing Matooster through Mmorogong passing Thipe Molwana’s compound, the land of my fore father towards the rich chrome mines which have been operational for more than 46 years is full of potholes it’s semi gravel. This one area that contributed to +-35% of Bophutatswana GDP with its mines and tourism (which it’s comprises part of Pilanesberg game reserve and some elegant resorts, Black Rhino ect). This road had been overlooked such a resourceful passage. North West province we are leading with you. We had Martooster as a central hub of regional civil works, roads, telecommunications, mbulances and fire fighting infrastructure for Mankwe and Madikwe in the later years.
